Do you often work with several applications at the same time, which cover your desktop and force you to minimize all windows whenever you need to open an icon on the desktop? If you do, you may find that this handy utility will save you quite a few mouse clicks!
When you install Desktoplet?, it displays a small icon in the taskbar notification area (next to the system clock), that does not interfere with your work: it just sits there quietly, waiting for you to click on it:
When you need to open another item located on the desktop, you don"t have to minimize or close all other windows you might have open at that time to uncover the desktop. Instead, just click on the Desktoplet icon, and a miniature version of the desktop (the Desktoplet) will appear on the screen, above all other windows that might be open at that time. The Desktoplet window contains the small versions of the desktop icons, at the same positions as the original icons on the "real" desktop. When you move the mouse pointer over an icon on the Desktoplet, the title of that icon is displayed as a "tooltip":
You can use Desktoplet to perform the basic operations with its icons just like with the icons on the "real" desktop. You can click on an icon to open the file or folder the icon represents. If you right-click on the icon, the Windows shortcut menu is displayed, and you can choose the commands from that menu, just like when you right-click on an icon on the main desktop. If you right-click within an empty space of the Desktoplet, the shortcut menu for Display Properties is shown, again, just as if you would have right-clicked on the main desktop. If you click with the mouse anywhere outside of the Desktoplet window, the Desktoplet disappears and you are back in the application you were working with before. Yes, it"s that easy! (Don"t you wish all software were that easy to use?)
You can customize the appearance of Desktoplet, too: you can choose an image to be displayed in its background, or select a custom color with or without a gradient:

Proactive Password Auditor (PPA?; former Proactive Windows Securiy Explorer) is a password security test tool that"s designed to allow Windows? NT, Windows? 2000, Windows? XP and Windows Server 2003-based systems administrators to identify and close security holes in their networks.
New version of Proactive Password Auditor has been released. On LM hashes, the program works about 1.5 times faster; brute-force and mask attacks (LM and NTLM) are now multi-threaded for better performance on SMP systems, dual-core processors and processors with HyperThreading technology; multilingual user interface has been implemented; the "Passwords by time - running total" report has been added; SAM and SYSTEM files from Windows Vista are now supported, and much more.
Password hacking is one of the most critical and commonly exploited network security threats. Too often, users like to use simple and easy-to-remember passwords such as repeating characters, simple words, and names. In addition, some network administrators forget to purge terminated employees from the system, force people to change passwords often, or lock out users after a number of failed attempts.
Proactive Password Auditor helps secure networks by executing an audit of account passwords, and exposing insecure account passwords. If it is possible to recover the password within a reasonable time, the password is considered insecure.
An administrator can also use it to recover any lost password and access a user"s Windows? account. Proactive Password Auditor works by analyzing user password hashes and recovering plain-text passwords.
The software supports a few different methods of obtaining password hashes for further attack/audit: from dump files (generated by 3rd party tools like pwdump/pwdump2/pwdump3), Registry of local computer, binary Registry files (SAM and SYSTEM), memory of local computer, and memory of remote computers (Domain Controllers), including ones running Active Directory. It can use brute-force and dictionary attacks on LM and NTLM password hashes, effectively optimized for speed.
The product also features a so-called "rainbow" attack, that uses pre-computed hash tables that allow to find most passwords in minutes instead of days or weeks.
